What is the point of fishing if you gonna release it?

So I see a lot of ppl who go to fishing and go all that trouble to catch one and than release it, so did you just go there to waste time and get out of home?
so you buy an expensive bought, fish rods and hooks, spend hours on the lake, catch one fish and release?
most ppl do fishing for her, to eat a meal, but here you doing it for your own enjoyment. waste of time.

If you didn’t catch the fish, you’ll never know if you’re able to catch the fish or not. Getting a fish to bite is exciting. Fighting a fish is exciting. Killing a fish is not as exciting so I let them go. I’m have a great time testing my skills without killing the fish and fishing is not a waste of time.

Yeah dude, we catch them because it’s fun. Why do people drift their cars or play paintball or football? Catching fish is a blast, you don’t need to bring home fillets to have had a good time.

Fishing isn’t all about catching fish. It’s a relaxing time, For me it’s about getting away from home and being alone with my thoughts. Catching fish is fun, and watching your catch swim away is a good feeling.

Be able to know that you can outsmart nature, to release stress, fight the fish, and have a good time with friends seeing who can catch more. :)

What’s the point of having sex, if you are just going to let her walk away? it’s the same difference. Just trying to make a point here.

why’d you go to the trouble of asking such a stupid question if you don’t care about fishing in the first place?

Have you ever seen THE look on a child’s face when they have caught a fish?

THAT is what it is all about!

If you don’t practice catch and release of fish that you don’t plan to eat, or necessarily need to feed on, then there won’t be a substantial amount of fish and game left for our future generations to come if we don’t help to make a difference.

My boys love catching fish! And they love releasing them back into the water! I’m pretty sure they would like to continue doing that for a long time to come, for themselves and for their own children, and I know I would.

The point is, the sport of fishing is off the hook!

    Yahooz-

Whats the point of making your bed if your just going to sleep in it again? whats the point of wiping your butt if your just going to sh*t again?

Sometimes fish are released not because its sport, but for other reasons, such as being an incidental catch, or not within a size limit.

I think your confusion is in your question, you ask “go all that trouble”. It is no trouble at all, in fact, it is what we ENJOY doing

further, this begs the question of what you are doing watching others catch and release fish? Certainly not reading an english book.

Is english a second language for you? If not, then it would NOT be a waste of time for you to take some English lessons, it might even help you “get out of home” more often

    PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

Just because you are catch and release fishing doesnt mean you wont harvest the fish another time. Keep working your lures and learn different ways to attract fish to bite.

It is great practice to only keep the fish that are healthy adults and are actually in season. Just because you can catch a bass in may throughout new jersey it is illegal to keep the bass you catch. You dont want to catch the small fish and bring them home, you want to catch the larger ones and harvest them so the smaller fish grow for next year. Otherwise the larger fish will eat the smaller ones and never give a chance for fish to populate an area properly.

Just to include an opinion. I personally catch and release because I find more enjoyment in making my own lures to catch the fish, I dont always buy the lures. However, I do believe it is much more a waste of time for people to go wasting $2.50 on a dozen nightcrawlers or $5 a pint of minnows only to toss them after the trip and have to buy more next time, so I prefer fishing lures, honing my abilities, and learning how to make my own lures. Like I said, practice makes perfect.

There is sports fishing, just like hunting and the only thing different is that you release your catch alive. If you kill your catch always like hunting, you will be left with none. Fishes can multiply and by doing so, you leave some for the next generation and the next… Take what you can eat. In terms of wasting time, that is purely our own perception. I wont want to call relaxation a waste of time, while enjoyment is subjective. If fishing is not enjoyable to you, don’t! I guess there are other things that you like doing that others don’t.

There is something about fishing that relaxes you. you test your skills. people waste their time on facebook or TV, so why can’t they waste their time doing something outside and active?
