Would you trust motorcycles from the salvage yards?

Do you think it is safe to purchase a cruiser style of motorcycle from the salvage yard and eventually fixing it from the ground up. Next semester I’m taking a class on engine repair but was wondering if I should start with a new frame for the build.

    Absolutely.
For years I used H/D cleaned from salvage yard to sink my crab pot and as ad-hoc dock fender. The day it didn’t want
to come up was no loss to us either.

Sure thats why they have them-its not a collection
3/4 of mine start that way-esp if i leave them basic stock bikes
The Choppers are from ground up but the others are for the most part theft recovery or a minor accident-Frame damage forget it

Get one that’s been flood damaged, you can do a search by VIN number online at Edmunds.com to see why the bike is in the salvage yard to begin with. You’ll also want to get very familiar with the laws in your state regarding salvage titles and what is required to get that bike back into registration status. Wrecked bikes often have damaged frames, and putting an engine from one bike into another frame is another can of worms altogether.

From my local yard, yes. He’s been there longer than I can remember, and I’ve done business with him for years.
From any other yard, it would get a very thorough going over.
